Lyrics

Garryowen (St John's acre)

Let **Bacchus' sons be not dismayed
but join with me each jovial blade
booze and sing and lend your aid
to help me with the chorus

CHORUS
Instead of spa we'll drink down ale
and pay the reckoning on the nail
no man for debt shall go to jail
from Garryowen in glory

We'll break the windows we'll break the doors
The watch knock down by three's and four's
then let the doctors work their cures
and tinker up our bruises

CHORUS

Our hearts so stout have got us fame
for soon 'tis known from whence we came
where're we go they dread the name
of Garryowen in glory

CHORUS

*The 7th Cavalry Regiment is a United States Army cavalry regiment, whose lineage traces back to the mid-19th century. Its official nickname is “Garryowen”, in honor of the Irish drinking song Garryowen that was adopted as its march tune.

*The word spa derives from the name of the belgian town Spa (today best known from WW1, when the german high command resided there for most of the war) and means in a modern context usually a place or town where people go to receive medical treatments, generally involving some water, but in the context of the Garryowen song the word spa alone would mean the water from a mineral well, taken in a ressort town connected to said well.

**Dionysus / Bacchus
