Billy and Carl put a smile on your face with the infectious “Waiting for the Shoe to Drop,” unabashedly going full rockabilly, and showcasing a versatility that would make Brian Setzer and the cats proud. You’re tapping your toes and dancing in your chair, but the lyrics you’re receiving, for all their poetry (“Never gonna taste the rainbow when you’re suckin’ on a lollipop”) and playfulness (“Never gonna make it to Sunday school rockin’ and doin’ the hop”) carry the deep message of immanence and immediacy, of seizing the moment and living in the present: “If I only knew now what I knew then, you never know how, you never know when.”

Lyrics

When you slow down you stop, stop, stop
And I ain’t gonna stop
When you blow around you pop, pop, pop
My balloon ain’t gonna pop
Never gonna make it to the mountain top
Never gonna buy the candy shop
Waiting for the shoe to drop
Waiting for the shoe to drop
Waiting for the shoe to drop

Never gonna taste the rainbow
When you’re sucking on a lollipop
Never gonna make it to Sunday School
Rockin’ and doing the hop
If I only knew now what I knew then
You never know how, you never know when
Waiting for the shoe to drop
Waiting for the shoe to drop
Waiting for the shoe to drop

When you try to play it cool
Your water freeze, your ice won’t melt
When you try to play the fool
The noose is tighter than a bible belt
You’re never gonna see your name in lights
Drinkin’ all day, gettin’ in fights
Waiting for the shoe to drop
Waiting for the shoe to drop
Waiting for the shoe to drop
