  1. Just A Story

Almost every word Billy Webster writes shimmers with paradox and valence, suggesting alternative realities of both suffering and salvation, the anguish of the mind bolstered by the hopes of the heart and the mystical resilience of the loving and expressive soul, a restless romantic encased in fatalistic realism, like his Dunne and Poe. Some of his songs are compressed little nuggets so integrated with this dynamic you have to crack them open to release their full dimension, and “Just a Story” is one of these. A sort of Sid and Nancy parable with a breathless proto-punk surge, it concisely chronicles the inherent dualities and dangers of love with yet irresistible combustion: “One more time around and maybe then this whole ride won’t seem so wild, she says yes I’ll have your baby if you deliver the child.”

Lyrics

She’ll never work
When she works all is lost
He’ll never fight
‘Cause he’ll lost at any cost

And they can’t tell me who to follow
And who to ignore
‘Cause there is a world
They have yet to explore

One more time around and maybe
This whole ride won’t seem so wild
She says yes I’ll have your baby
If you deliver the child
I’m ready now

She gets her kicks
Letting cats out of bags
She takes his time
To ensure that it drags
Some might says those small black halos
Go well with thorns
But sometimes the white halos
Hide little horns

One more time around and maybe
This whole ride won’t seem so wild
She says yes I’ll have your baby
If you deliver the child
If you deliver the child

One was never alone and
One was never alone any more now
The difference was what they came in without

One more time around and maybe
This whole ride won’t seem so wild
She says yes I’ll have your baby
If you deliver the child
If you deliver the child
I’m ready now
