“What Do You Think” is a declarative call to love that pierces through externals and convention (“It’s not as though I’m saying yes to your makeup or your dress”) to eternal essentials (“I know every beat of your heart, the mystery is what is on your mind”) with philosophic resonance (“It’s not as though you’re gonna get any further out of debt to your purpose or your pride”) and sober accountability (“If you haven’t made a sound, we will never coincide”), with a promise: “One thing that I would never do is bend your broken time.” What follows this declaration and ends the song is a fantastic, flailing guitar solo over stoic power chords in the best hard rock tradition, one that musically suggests these two found their way.
